It's even harder on the parents.
Every day, it seems Hannah wants to grow up faster and faster. Lately, she's been begging to start shaving her legs.
She's only 10!
My initial response was telling Hannah she's too young... that she didn't need to shave her legs while still in elementary school.
(This will be her last year in elementary school, by the way.)
(Don't even get me started on the fact that I will have a child in middle school next year.)
At first, Hannah seemed fine with waiting another year. But...
She has a few friends who've already started shaving. And she's getting a little self-conscious about the hair on her legs, to the point where she doesn't want to wear dresses or skirts anymore, and is even reluctant to wear shorts.
I know every girl is different, and girls nowadays start maturing at an earlier age than what they used to (I'm pretty sure I didn't start shaving my legs until I was 12.) And I don't want her to have any body-image issues.
Still... she's only 10!
{sigh}
While I'm not ready for Hannah to grow up, it looks like she's gone ahead and done so.
