#8 Water for Elephants
scheduled release date: April 22, 2011
Sometime last summer, Angie was kind enough to let me borrow her copy of Water for Elephants... little did she realize it would take me almost a year before I got around to reading it.
I'm not sure why I waited so long to read it, because the book is fantastic. Once I got through the first chapter, I couldn't put the book down. And it's one of those books that while reading, it played out in my mind like a movie (if that makes any sense). I could see (in my head) every detail that was written. Even though the narrative jumps back and forth between the main character's past and present, the story just flowed and it was easy to picture it all in my mind.
Which is why I'm really excited to see the movie...
To be honest, I'm also a little nervous. When books are made into movies, it's usually the book that fares better, and I'm usually left disappointed by the film version. But I'm going to keep an open mind tomorrow night when Angie, Jane, my mom and I all go to see the film.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'll be spending two hours staring at this:
Have you read Water for Elephants? Will you see the movie?
UPDATE: Well, we saw the movie and my verdict is... it's okay. Not great, but not bad. The book is definitely better (as I had a feeling it would be). The movie has a few changes from the book, but nothing really too major and I didn't feel the changes took away from the story. Unfortunately, I didn't feel any chemistry between Rob and Reese. If you saw the film, what did you think?
