I feel a letter to the editor coming on.
I've been a loyal reader of Entertainment Weekly for almost 10 years... not once have I missed an issue since subscribing to the magazine.
But it seems as though I get the short end of the stick when it comes to an EW issue that has multiple covers.
For instance, when the fifth Harry Potter film was released, EW put out three covers. Here's the one I received:
Not that I have anything against Emma Watson... but, really? I couldn't have either Dan or Rupert?
EW issued eleven covers to commemorate the end of "Lost". Eleven. And which one did I get stuck with?
Don't get me wrong, I think Terry O'Quinn is brilliant and deserves another Emmy for his work on the best television show of all time. But how 'bout some eye candy, EW?! And by that I mean the covers featuring either Josh Holloway or Matthew Fox!
And now, here are the two covers for this week's issue...
Wanna place your bet as to which cover will be in my mailbox tomorrow?

Everything Austen Challenge Redux
For those of you who've been around here awhile, you know how I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen.
For anyone who's fairly new to the NutHouse...
I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen.
I had so much fun with last year's Everything Austen Challenge, I couldn't resist joining again!
Hosted by Stephanie's Written Word, the Everything Austen Challenge II will be held July 1, 2010 through January 1, 2011. To participate, all you do is pick 6 Austen-themed things you want to complete during the challenge period.
With the abundance of Austen books, movies, spin-offs and sequels available, it was hard to narrow my choices to just six... but here they are (in no particular order):
So there is my list... now I just need to figure out which one I want to tackle first!
Out of my list, which one would you pick?

With the abundance of Austen books, movies, spin-offs and sequels available, it was hard to narrow my choices to just six... but here they are (in no particular order):
- watch the 2007 Masterpiece Theater version of "Northanger Abbey"
- listen to an audiobook of any Jane Austen novel (it will most likely be a version of Emma that's available on iTunes and is narrated by Jeremy Northam...SWOON!)
- read Murder at Longbourn by Tracy Kiely
- watch "Bridget Jones's Diary" (which I confess to never having seen before!)
- read In the Arms of Mr. Darcy by Sharon Lathan (this will be Book 4 in the author's Darcy Saga. I've read the other books in this series and have thoroughly enjoyed each one!)
- read Captain Wentworth's Diary by Amanda Grange (I struggled with adding this to my list, only because I read two books by this author for last year's challenge. But I'm such a fan of her work, I kept coming back to her books I've not yet read and chose this one!)

This blog is turning into a real P.O.S.
Prisoner Of Summer, that is.
I'm joining Ash in NOT being guilt-ridden over the fact that VBS, swim lessons, vacation, bathroom renovations and just having the kids home all day is keeping me away from this blog.
I'll be around when I can... but for the most part,
see you in September!

a thank you and a request
Two things on the agenda today:
First, thanks for the input in my decorating dilemma... you guys have given me a lot to think about. I'll have to see what Shane thinks about your ideas. I figure I ought to let him have some say in the matter.
Since, you know, when I say "we are going to paint" I really mean "SHANE is going to paint".
Second, I'd love for you to head over to Rachael's blog to check out my guest post! Rachael just gave birth to her second son last month... and while she takes some time off to adjust from one kid to two, she asked for guest posts from some of her favorite bloggers. I'm honored she chose me for one of the guest spots... so please go check it out!

I need some decorating advice!
Within the next day or so, Shane and I are going to begin the project of re-doing the girls' bathroom. Nothing major, just taking down the existing wallpaper and painting is all we have to do. Here's what the bathroom looks like now:
The wallpaper isn't too bad... but not one I would have chosen. It's also started to peel away near the tub, and it's been up for 7 years; it's time for a new look!
Here's the new color scheme:
The shower curtain is similar to the rug... pale pink background with brown, cream and dark(er) pink polka dots.
My dilemma is how to paint the walls... this is where I need your help!
I originally thought we'd paint the bottom half of the walls in the dark brown color, the top half would be cream, and then we'd paint a small strip of the pale pink to separate the two colors. The strip of pink would be maybe 3 or 4 inches wide.
But then I thought maybe we shouldn't incorporate the pink into the walls. Just thinking ahead to when we might move from this house, and I don't want potential buyers to be put off by the pink (albeit a very light shade of pink). If we just used the brown and cream on the walls, that should be plenty neutral to satisfy most people.
So...
My next thought was to paint all the walls the cream color, except for an accent wall, which would be the darker brown. But now I don't know which wall to use as the accent!
If it helps, here is the (very crudely done) layout:
Yes, the doorway into the bathroom from the hallway is at an angle. And it's a small-ish space... so I don't want the accent wall to be too overpowering, if that makes sense. I was thinking to paint the strip of wall showing above the bathtub the dark brown...
What do you think? Got any ideas as to how the room should be painted?

Table Topics Tuesday: girls just wanna have fun!
Ask my kids, and they'd say I (and every other adult) have it easy:
And all those are true. But on the flip side, I could go on and on about how it's more fun to be a kid since kids don't have to worry about any of the responsibilities that comes with being an adult.
Oh, to be a kid again.
But you know what? I think most adults (myself included!) could be more carefree and kid-like in their daily lives. I know I need to chill out more... and not take everything so seriously.
So that's going to be my goal for this summer --- to have some FUN!

- I don't have to go to school or do homework ('cause you know, elementary school is sooooo hard!)
- I can stay up as late as I want
- I can watch any TV show or movie I want
- I have sole control over what music we listen to in the car

do you think it is more fun to be a parent or a child?
