I've mentioned before that I do not like surprises.
Funny thing is, I like giving surprises to other people.
But when it comes to keeping the surprise a... well, surprise... I don't do so well.
For example, for Shane's birthday, I bought tickets for the two of us to see Dave Matthews in concert. I bought the tickets about a month or so before his birthday... and managed to keep it from him for all of three days.
It's not that I want to spill the beans! But I get so excited knowing that the recipient of the surprise is going to love it... that I can barely contain myself and end up revealing the surprise (Oddly enough, I am able to keep my mouth shut when it comes to Christmas presents. Go figure.)
So about a week ago... Shane and I decided to surprise Hannah and Michaela with a trip to Disney World for fall break. Our first family trip to the House of Mouse was 3 years ago, and we've been wanting to go back ever since! The opportunity to go this fall presented itself, so we jumped on it. It was late at night when we first discussed going, so we couldn't tell the kids our plans until the next morning anyway. But then I had the idea of surprising the girls... not telling them until it was closer to October, or even waiting until the night before we are to leave! Shane went along with my idea and we started planning...
And the past week has been torture... I went back and forth to Shane:
"Should we just tell them?"
"No, you're right, let's just keep it a surprise."
"But I can't wait to tell the girls! I think we should just tell them."
You do know how this ends, right?
16 Nutty Buddies Have Something To Say:
NOOOOO! Don't tell them. Imagine their faces when they walk up to the house of mouse. My girlfriend just keeps telling her girls they're going to Anaheim. The girls are excited about Anaheim but have no idea that's where DISNEY IS. I hope they catch the look on their faces when they find out. SO FUN! For your girls too. So envious!
Hold off telling them - they will be so surprised when the time comes to leave. I am the same way though : )
LOL! I am the same way. :)
You made me giggle:) I know...it's just so hard to contain your own excitement!
I am the same way, but you should totally wait and surprise them!
So, what did they say when you told them? :-)
I hope you didn't tell them, but it would be fun regardless of when you tell them. You'll just have to listen to them ask how much longer till Disney...
I too am terrible about keeping the beans in. That is why I always give people presents early. I just can't wait.
What a great surprise. Hope you can keep the secret.
My friend just did the surprise Disney trip. She didn't tell her kids until they were at the Disney gates. I have no idea how she kept it a secret for so long!! I don't think I could do it.
It's freakishly scary how well Angie knows me.
Yes, we've told the girls... I know, I know! We just figured it would be too hard to plan without them knowing, especially since we're going with Shane's brother and his family!
So we told the girls the night before I wrote this post. And in my head, I had visions of the girls jumping up and down, whooping, and telling me I am the best mother in the whole wide world. Yeah, didn't quite happen that way. While they areexcited, it was me who did all the whooping and jumping up and down.
I whopping and jumping up and down for you. Well...in my head anyway. My girls are always talking about the next time we go to Disney :-)
Don't worry, come October they'll be totally freaking out.
I, on the other hand, am already freaking out for you - so much stinkin' fun!!!!!!!!
P.S. - did you see this little diddy today? http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20405487,00.html?hpt=C2
I'm awful about keeping secrets when I'm excited! I hope you guys have a great time!
I wouldn't have been able to hold it in either. No matter, I hope you have a GREAT time!
I hope you have a great time! I'm guessing you ended up telling them! ;)
