Most nights during dinner we have the TV set to the evening news. And most nights, the girls don't pay much attention to the newscast... but last night when the local weatherman came on, the girls took notice of one word he uttered:
SNOW.
The forecast called for a "wintry mix"... Hannah and Michaela thought they had better do their "snow dance" before going to bed. Unfortunately, they forgot to do their little ritual...
But they didn't need to bother.
School was dismissed early... but it didn't start to snow until about an hour after we got home. Around 2:30 I went out to take a few pictures of the "snow"...
I figured we'd get just a light dusting, like we did three weeks ago. But a few hours later, the snow and sleet was still coming down. Shane called to say he'd be getting home late, if he made it at all, as the roads were starting to get icy.
Here's what the yard looked like at 5:30:
Shane was able to make it home... finally. What is normally a 30 minute drive home took two and a half hours. And he had to leave his car at the entrance to our neighborhood, as he couldn't get his car up the hill.
Of course, Hannah and Michaela are LOVING the snow. They talked their dad into going out for an impromptu snowball fight...

Oh cool! We almost never get snow. We get freezing rain and sleet.A lot of folks are without power tonight because of that! Y'all have fun and stay warm!
send some snow to idaho! we are having a cold winter, but no snow this year!
I kind of wish we had gotten some of this storm...we missed it completely. Although the ice...I can live without! :)
Lucky!!!
Here it sleeted but then turned in to rain. To far down South I suppose. But as we, too, watched the weather, I thought about you guys and hoped you got some snow. Mail me some, k?
We're supposed to be getting some of that stuff today. We'll see if it makes it this far north.
That's an awesome snow angel... mine always is messed up from me trying to get up out of the snow! :)
Stay warm!
LOVE that snow angel!!! We got nothing either... :o( boo hoo...I wanted a good storm.
Ooh, you got lots and lots! How fun for the girls! But they were all out there throwing snowballs with no gloves? Holy crap, their hands must have been on fire by the time they got inside!!!
Justine :o )
I love your night time snow pictures. So pretty. We had a lot of rain last night. More like 4:30 this morning. How much did you finally end up with? I hope ya'll are staying warm.
I had the same question as Kat: how much snow did you get?
Lula said she had to cancel Libby's sleepover...so sad. Glad to see your girls loving the snow!
Stay warm!
The snow just started here a couple of hours ago. I went to the gym and it was cold but clear, I came out and there was 1/2 an inch on the ground. This is turning out to be some winter!
Cool! We got a dusting too:-)
Good grief! You have more snow than we do right now! WOW!
Woah! No wonder the girls were happy...that's a lot of snow!
I measured at 4:30 and we were up to 8" but it's STILL snowing so I'm sure it will be more in the morning.
Wow! We had about 10 pieces of sleet and 18 snowflakes.
I wish we got snow here. We've been planning to go up in the mountains for a day but fighting traffic doesn't sound like any fun at all. Nothing better than having fun with dad. Sweet memories they'll always remember.
Glad you are enjoying it! We've had enough snow for me... I'm eager for spring!
My mom and dad are permanently in Murphy now and she called me to let me know about the crazy snow ya'll got! They are so excited!
LOVE the snow angel!! We got about 6 inches as well.. pretty impressive for DC. Our toddler loved it!
I'm so glad it was a good snow! My girls were so excited, but this morning, Ashlyn actually said "when is the snow going away?!" My sentiments exactly kid. Guess moving to Maine isn't such a hot idea after all. :-)
