Ahem.
I can't recall how I came across Stephanie's blog... but when I saw her "Everything Austen Challenge" I was intrigued! The deadline to sign up for the challenge had already passed... but Stephanie graciously let me be a part of it!
The "Everything Austen Challenge" runs from July 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010. To participate, you choose six Austen-themed things you want to complete. My choices are:
- read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith (this has been in my "to read" pile for the longest time...)
- read The Darcys and the Bingleys by Marsha Altman (so has this one!)
- read Colonel Brandon's Diary by Amanda Grange (I've read Mr. Darcy's Diary and Mr. Knightley's Diary by the same author, and enjoyed both... particularly Darcy's)
- read Jane Austen's Guide to Good Manners: Compliments, Charades and Horrible Blunders by Josephine Ross (as someone who has wondered what it would really be like to have lived during the Regency Period, this book will enlighten me on the dress and etiquette of the day!)
- watch "Pride and Prejudice" (the 1995 BBC version with Colin Firth, which I've never seen)
- watch "Lost in Austen" (a 2008 BBC miniseries... the trailer looks promising!)
Since I'll have two challenges to post this month, I'm going to choose one book and one movie... I'll read The Darcys and the Bingleys and watch "Pride and Prejudice".
Get ready, Colin Firth... I'm comin' for you!

19 Nutty Buddies Have Something To Say:
sounds like fun!
Would you believe I've never read any of those books? Haven't seen the movies either. Not sure if I'd like them. It seems like P&P has been a long-running joke about being a long, boring book, no?
Justine :o )
Btw... when WAS the regency period?
Justine :o )
I wonder how it is that I am a fan of British Regency novels...but not Austen's?? I just can't get past the language. I think. But...the movies. Those I love. And I think I am going to have to find that movie. Is it on BBCA or are you netflixing it??
Oh, and Justine - the Regency is when George was the regent. Because his father was declared mad. He was "in charge" but not king - I think it's from 1811 to about 1820 - and ended when he became king after his father died.
And if I can get a little more geeky - sometimes the Regency era is used to describe all of his reign- or as the time between the Georgian era (think the time of hoop skirts and pantiliers) and the Victorian era. The Regency was much more liberal - and filled with lavish spending and excess. And ironically - the Napoleonic Wars.
Okay...I think I have royally outed myself :-)
Great choices! I absolutely loved Altman's The Darcys and the Bingleys!!
sounds interesting, I hope that you enjoy yourself.
You have quite a bit of reading and movie watching ahead of you. I could watch Pride and Prejudice till the cows come home. Love the book. Love it. I am going to have to read some of the others you mentioned.
As for Kat I never knew geeks could be so cool and fun to hang out with. If she ever starts wearing glasses with bandaids in the middle that is where I draw the line. lol
I've never tried to read any of those books...I suck.
But I'm sure glad you won!
Good luck on your challenge!
Colin Firth is so dreamy. Sigh.
I have on my big list of things to do to read a Jane Austen book. Somehow I never have. Maybe I'll play along with this challenge. Informally, of course.
I love love love the BBC miniseries version of Pride and Predjudice! Ahh when Mr Darcy gets out of the water... I own that version and may have to go watch it now ;)
I.Love.Jane.
Lost in Austen....AWESOME!
Can't wait to read "The Darcys and the Bingleys!"
I LOVED Lost in Austen...watched it last month...rented from Netflix and it was so adorable.
And GIRL...get thee to the video store or Netflix and WATCH PRIDE AND PREJUDICE with COLIN FIRTH! He IS Fitzwilliam Darcy. Hardcore. GO WATCH!
Oh HUGE Jane Austen fan as well here. Have you read the book, Jane Austen Ruined My Life by Beth Patillo? It is VERY good!! AND you must watch Pride and Prejudice with my man Colin Firth. I mean, the remake with Keira whats her name was good and I'll still watch it every time I catch it on HBO. But Colin Firth IS Mr. Darcy.
Another vote for Lost in Austen. I really enjoyed it.
I love Jane Austen! The movies, not the books. ;)
It is so great meeting like minded austen fans - jealous of darcys and bingleys - can't wait to read it! Hope you have as much fun doing the challenge as I am.
"lost in Austen" is WONDERFUL! HI, i stumbled upon your blog somehow, ha ha. It's such a cute blog! can't wait to read more :)
You are cracking me up! If anyone can make this challenge a success, it will be you. I know no other JA fan that is as committed and enthusiastic as you!
